Fall and Early Winter Sports

September to December Sports Offered:
  • Football
  • Cross Country
  • Volleyball
  • Tennis Club (No physical is needed for participation)
  • Boys' Basketball

Football 
Football is offered to all 7th and 8th graders at West.  Football practice starts usually the 3rd Monday of August.  Students need an athletic physical to participate, an athletic supporter, a cup and a mouth guard.   If you want to purchase cleats you may, but West has two very large boxes of gently used cleats your student may use, so don't feel like you must purchase those.  West provides all other equipment.  All school issued equipment is the responsibility of the student and if lost or damaged, must be paid for upon completion of the season. 

Cross Country 
Cross Country is offered to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders at West.  Cross Country practice starts right after school the first full day of school and meets in the cafeteria for practice.  Students need an athletic physical to participate, running shoes, a water bottle and should dress for the weather.  Students receive a West issued uniform.  All school issued equipment is the responsibility of the student and if lost or damaged, must be paid for upon completion of the season.  Please see the bottom of the page to open the schedule.  

Volleyball 
Volleyball is offered to all 7th and 8th grade girls at West.  Volleyball tryouts starts right after school the first full day of school, run for three days and meets in the gym.  The girls do not need to be there for all three days of tryouts, but parents must realize the more time the coaches have to see the girls the better the chance they of making the team.  Students need an athletic physical to participate, gym shoes and a water bottle.  Students do not need to wear spandex or are required to purchase knee pads.  The girls are required to purchase a uniform top.  

Tennis Club 
Tennis Club is offered to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders at West.  WMS Intramural Tennis will meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays the third week in September. This is a drop-in program for all WMS students and no prior experience in tennis is necessary. The goal of our program is to provide students with basic skill development and a variety of playing opportunities.  The completion of the club is always an annual WMS Student/Staff Tennis TournamentThis special tournament is an opportunity for our intramural tennis students to invite a WMS staff member or family member to be their doubles partner.  Refreshments and donuts will be served following the tournament.  

Boys' Basketball 
Basketball is offered to all 7th and 8th grade boys at West.  Basketball tryouts starts right after school the forth week in October, run for three days and meets in the gym.  The boys do not need to be there for all three days of tryouts, but parents must realize the more time the coaches have to see the boys the better the chance they of making the team.  Students need an athletic physical to participate, gym shoes and a water bottle.  West provides all other equipment in the form of a uniform top, shorts and a practice penny.  All school issued equipment is the responsibility of the student and if lost or damaged, must be paid for upon completion of the season.
